Joseph

Finally, after only around 30 years, I got to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat today.

Let’s start by saying that the Derngate Theatre in Northampton has no air conditioning, that or they are saving quids by not turning it on and today has been the hottest day of the year. At 22:00 it was 26°C so that gives some idea of just how hot.

There was actually a heat haze in the theatre.

We did have really good seats though. Not the expensive good seats but seats way back but with an excellent over all view of the performance.

My memory of ‘Joseph’ was from studying it at school when I was around 12 I guess, I may have been younger. My music teach, Mrs Gibbons, was fascinated with the show, enthralled to the point of obsession. It was good though the way she relayed it else I’d not have wanted to see this show quite so much, thank you Mrs Gibbons.

The show was amazing. It is so fast paced it was difficult to find time to breath. One great number led into another flowing wonderfully. The first half was over quicker than I could have imagined, indeed, the whole show ended too quickly. So incredible was this show that it received a standing ovation and audience members were dancing to the rhythms. The acting was superb as was the choreography. There was a slight failing on one track from the ‘Pharaoh’ but it was a particularly difficult song to sing so, considering the heat and the complexity, he did remarkably well. If I’d change anything (ALW take note) it would be the narrator. I feel a better placed person would be much older. Sadly, the girl playing it seemed to be fresh from Kids TV presenting on something such as ‘Play School’ and it was a little off putting, all the more so that she seemed like a blast from the 70’s when the rest of the show has clearly seen some updates over the years.

These are minor complaints though in an otherwise excellent performance.

End of an Era?

Well, not exactly but there was something I found out earlier which pissed me off a little … Costa Coffee have bought the café at Tesco Mereway. This is the end of the sub £1 tea and coffee for sure.

Further to that and arguing a green agenda, Tesco are stopping the provision of carrier bags as of September though they will still have some available for a fee … once again, the poor pay to be green whilst the rich don’t notice. We have tons of bags here but they may well start to fall apart quite soon.

Deej has been on a Babylon 5 watching drive today … he has watched loads of episodes and slept threw a whole lot more! Strangely, I am quite enjoying the series except not quite enough to watch it one episode after another all day long.

The girls got the house looking amazing earlier and well deserved the treats we bought back from Tesco.

Spoke to Renault UK again, a guy called ‘Wesley’. Whilst I was not able to get them to pay anything I did at least get the guy to open up and be honest with me. Up until I spoke to him they were all for me spending another £88 for a diagnosis and then seeing what good will gesture they were going to come up with. Eventually I put it to Wesley that if they discovered it was a manufacturing fault, would they do the job without it costing me more than £100, he said ‘not a chance’. I may not have liked that answer but it was obvious he was going out on a limb to say it and was polite all the way through, well done him.

The site I used to use regular, Kagoul, is awful now. They are so fixated on their witch hunt that just about everyone is suspected of being a ‘troll’. They are all at each others throats, claims of supporting their mates, doing the right thing and various other comments. I doubt there is any chance they will ever give it a rest and forget previous grievances with other members and move on. They’ve not yet named me as a troll, but they will. Soon after that the webmaster will also be called a troll and all out war will be declared! I check it now out of cusiosty and just in case a sensible thread is started.

MySpace is still cool, nice to log on and see friends there. Outeverywhere is OK too. They are my net haunts these days when I am not out enjoying the weather, visiting friends, playing on the Wii, watching TV, cooking, cleaning and so on…

On Sunday 3rd August it is Deej’s birthday … I am trying to get as many people here as possible from 5pm onwards … it’s proving to be a little tricky but shall see what happens.

Weather permitting I think we may go to Brighton Pride next Saturday. It’s totally mad to do the 260 miles in one day but not to means making some lame excuses and I can’t be doing with that. Turns out that loads of people I know are gonna be there as well so will be interesting to see if we collide with anyone. Of course, if there is rain forecast then shall have to give it a miss..

Got the end of August sewn up at long last … yay! Friends and family in one weekend.

Sunday we find out when the outlaws can have the girls … please don’t be clashing with what I have already arranged!

Feeling great right now … no reason.

A Cold Front

Or rather, not!

Got the final death sentence on the AC in the car today. The quote is for over £500 and it has already cost me £90+. I’d allowed £200 tops so I couldn’t allow it more than £110. So, that’s that and I have to hope for good dry weather now and may all the raining days be cold ones.

I was a little upset today to discover it was one of my friends 18th birthday. He was asking around for someone to spend it with and I had to let him down because I was trying to sort the car out. On top of that I had a ‘pretend’ cop coming round to visit to discuss the setting up of neighbourhood watch in this area. What was annoying about that was him being due here at 5pm yet he actually turned up at 6.45pm still expecting a meeting on the subject. I feel doubly mean to Andy now for not agreeing to meet him as I could easily have changed what I did with the car until tomorrow and, if I’d know the cop was going to mess about, I could have cleared the remainder of the day.

The other day I also missed Danny’s birthday. I really did promise myself I’d buy a card and post it off to him in good time but I totally forgot to do it and had to resort to a web message instead, way too lame for words.

On the plus side, I feel great and am still looking forward to Stargate night tomorrow and the theatre on Friday.

I have also decided that this weekend I am going to win several million pounds on the lottery and I have great plans for August and September to spend the proceeds on … so, leave me to my little fantasy for a bit will you. On the very slim chance I am mistaken – and yes, I confess, I have been before – I would still be happy to treat anyone available to a pot of tea in Beatties 🙂

What do you mean it's nearly August?

Yes, here we go again, just getting into the whole notion that summer is ahead of me, shirtless guys, suntans and sleepless nights and it’s nearly August already. What does that mean cos surely summer goes through to September? Well, yes,in theory it does but also, in theory, it starts some time in June and we’ve had sod all so far so that’s a 50% failure rate. This puts a lot of hope riding on just 50% of the remaining possibility! Not even the slightest whiff of a hose pipe ban.

I was reminded earlier of one of my favourite bits of advice … take ownership of your own feelings and leave others to take care of theirs. That may sound a little harsh but if a conflict arises between one person and another meaning one of them is going to end up miserable, we have to fall back to number one and let the other person do the same. It’s also dead important never to deny our own feelings because they are inconvenient to our lifestyle. Feelings don’t go away unless we make changes. So, if we feel stressed, need to sleep more, hurt easily, chances are we are living a lifestyle which doesn’t suit us and we need to change it.

This is what I am doing or, rather, plan to do if this CRB check comes though. I cannot go day to day wondering what my future is going to be, I have to make it something, have some control over my destiny which, as a person on benefits, albeit it, through necessity, I currently don’t have. Yeah, I am happy enough and sure as hell don’t consider my life to date is wasted but I do, for the first time in years, see the path ahead as open to options. Until recently it was a fixed road with no slip roads. I have about another 5 years that I could go on just as I am because of the care Zoey still needs but after that, it’s not so clear. We shall start getting to the point where she may well need to move out to start as near an independant life as possible and then I am knowhere. As an alternative, I could make a move now, get myself fit for employment, do some serious networking and used to regular hours and routine. Then, in 5 years time, or maybe sooner, I could even develop something akin to a career, possibly move on building up a private pension. It’s actually quite exciting.

Wednesday night I am designating ‘Stargate Night’ when I hope that we can watch the latest Atlantis and also the latest sg1 movie again … yes, of course you are most welcome from 7pm onwards!

Before that though I need to take the car to get the AC sorted. I so hope that isn’t too expensive. I should still have transport though whilst it is gone but have no idea what I am going to be roaming around in.

Boy this is a good week … kids break up Wednesday, that means I can have a lay in Thursday (I hope). On Friday I am off to enjoy ‘Joseph’ at the Derngate theatre, a show I have wanted to see since I was around 12 back in the days when they had to perform it in black and white and played the national anthem at the end of it 😉

Anyway, the hoodie of time is about to be chucked out by the Lakeside of eternity so am going to sign off now

Bouncy bouncy, fun, fun fun ...

Deej and me assembled a trampoline for one of the other carers from the group yesterday. We also had to move a swing as she has one of the smallest gardens ever. It was a small miracle we got things fitted at all and am so glad I took a tape measure along! It was a good morning though and we have had a right laugh doing it.

We sat down and watched ‘Stargate Continuum’ last night. Three times we got interrupted and had to stop the movie so shall have to try again some other time when there is less chance of this happening. It was a good movie though, all the usual Stargate magic with some excellent twists. Sad to see Don S Davis in it so soon after he died. Great though to have a great many familiar characters from previous episodes show up. I actually failed to detect any glaring errors too. Only downside is that there is no planned follow up movie or new series of SG1, this really could have been the end of the line for it and that’s a sad thought. It is good though that we still have Atlantis to keep us going for a few months.

Deej said there was a call on my mobile yesterday from a withheld number. The caller refused to say what it was about and said they’d call back. It’s annoying as it gets me worried someone I care about could be in bother. Needless to say, no one called back so I have to presume it was probably just a sales team.

It’s amazing, petrol is at nearly £1.20 a litre albeit for .1 of a penny. The queues for fuel at Tesco earlier were huge and blocking off roads. I’d have gone somewhere else but I had a 5p off a litre voucher and it would have been stupid not to have used it. All this talk of people in real hardship yet still the car wash was busy.

Had a nice chat, first chat, with someone else off line earlier. It’s really cool to get to hear what people sound like and realise they are actually very much like the personalities I assumed they were.

Am hungry now, time for grub 🙂

The Very latest ... read all about it

Got up, had some grub and headed off to Robin’s place to help him out with a guy he sees regular for his health. It was a good visit and we had a laugh. As usual his cat Minerva was in and out like a rent boy on a Saturday night. OK, maybe not exactly like a rent boy now I think about it!

Came back to get on with some put off accounting which I am pleased to say balanced perfectly. I filled out some forms, made some required phone calls and posted some letters.

After I had just finished that and by now, pushing 3pm, Robin visited here with David, our friend originally from Texas but lately of Clapham. We discussed a little economy, some anomalies and the very silly subject of why it costs more to get a three day return than it does to buy a day return. Neither of us could really resolve that issue except for that the service providers know more people need more than a day so they can screw them for more money whereas those on a day return are more likely to seek alternative transport options if the price is too high. It sort of makes sense but is still stupid.

As soon as they left I drove and collected Daisy from her late session at school catching up on her ICT skills.

Did several other not overly exciting things and chilled a little.

Had a long dad/daughter chat with Daisy which I hope helped her out with a problem she’s got.

I have had a bath, feel nice and clean, totally relaxed and deciding what to do next. Shall I build another coaster or fly a plane or perhaps do a little silly stuff on the Wii? Decsions like that are what I love! 🙂

Readers

Today I found out that someone new was reading my blog, well, new to me as a known reader of this.

he has the impression of me being, actually, I shall use his words:

You come across as a troubled, confused and generally miserable individual and that’s not a prod at yourself but what I think.

Hmm, it got me thinking how some may have developed perceptions of me which don’t get anywhere near the real picture from reading this blog. I think the posts are varied enough that quite possibly if someone already has a perception of me they can find an entry which backs up their argument. They’ll find many others that contradict it but what they choose to use is entirely up to them.

For the record, gaps in my posts are generally meaning that I am not really phased by anything right now. Often those gaps can be quite long. In other words, most of the time I am really happy with my life.

There are bound to be times when I am pissed off at someone or something and those moments tend to get aired here. It doesn’t mean my life has come to an end or I am suffering from long term depression. yeah, I get days, hell, we must all get days when we’ll think ‘what the fuck’ but in the great scheme of things, they are just off days.

Quite often I find that just writing something down clears an issue from my mind or allows me to rationalise things. It’s also great to look back occasionally and see how I dealt with certain issues if they have cropped up again. Either I can copy what I did last time or try something else.

There are some who hold with the view that anyone who has some serious crap to deal with in their lives must also be quite screwed up. Yeah, I have known people like that but not me. I don’t have time for screwed up, if I allowed myself that luxury then the effect on others around me could be devastating as I know I am needed by a lot of people.

This blog was never intended to focus on the good stuff but, hey, there is no harm in mentioning some.

I had a right laugh with someone earlier, another carer. Deej and I are going there this Friday to fit up a trampoline. Her garden seems to get smaller each time she mentions it … I guess you needed to be on the phone to her for this to be funny.

Had a great visit with Jermaine yesterday. True, he kept dosing off but that’s not unusual if he’s been having some seizures. My dad was there as well who lives in Kent and it was good to catch up and have a giggle about things.

The garage I use to repair my cars has been amazing. They have been bending over backward to do me a good deal, calling in favours from others.

Next month we have loads of offers of places to go. Two BBQ’s too and thankfully, they don’t coincide so we can do both. We’ll be visiting friends and probably my dad. Deej and me will be meeting some net friends too for the first time. We were considering doing Brighton Pride but have decided against as the weekend would be too rushed.

A couple of online contacts have been suggesting some holiday ideas for next year for me to look into and I am getting quite keen on some of them … the idea, not the contacts!

Speaking of which, I got to chat on the phone to one of them recently, seems like a really nice guy.

This week has turned out to have been quite busy, a lot of people have needed me so my brain has been well and truly used. I like helping people if I can so this is a good thing. I sometimes have to say no just because getting overly tired with it makes me less effective.

I have been trying out www.kagoul.com again these past few days. Several guys from there were asking me to go back as they said it was in such a sorry state and they thought it needed me. I have no idea what they thought I could do but I have looked in and it seems the real issue is that it has no effective leadership. They (the leadership) have made it clear they really don’t have the time so it’s probably a lost cause. The net as a tool to make new contacts isn’t really that important to me right now, not from new sites anyway. I have been on www.outeverywhere.com for many years now and that’s where the majority of my net mates come from. By far the increase in my friends has come from friends of friends and those seem to be the relationships which are more important to me.

There are some really cool guys on Kagoul but I have either their phone numbers or MSN so really, the site itself isn’t important. It held some sentimental value to me because Tony introduced me to it and I have messages from him stored there. It’s a bit silly being sentimental over internet sites though!

Loads of peeps keep going on about Skeggy so I reckon I may just bite the bullet and head there one day during the school holidays. If it’s dire at least I’ll know for next time!

Wriitng about happy stuff is just so darned easy but it is late so anything else will have to wait until another day.

Touching Flies

Flies and touch screen monitors do not mix! Is there a way to insert a scream right here?

I keep turning the touch screen off and it keeps coming back on again and flies seem to be attracted to it … it’s like having biological pop up windows!
